Nokia vs the iPhone 4S and Android happening this quarter

Nokia?s new smartphones will join the market this quarter, two phones announced in China, and a new high-end phone with LTE in the United States.?

Nokia wants a piece of the lucrative world of smartphones, and this month alone, PR people announced new smartphones running Windows Phone will debut in China and the United States, two of the biggest smartphone markets in our solar system.

In China, Nokia collaborated with China Telecom because the phone maker eyes the carrier?s?126 million customers. According to the New York Times, the two phones that will run on the carrier?s CDMA technology will both debut this quarter. The smartphone named Lumia 800C?will debut this month, while the Lumia 610 will go sale by June with a more competitive price tag. Apparently, the iPhone 4S is very popular in China based on this video alone. Can Nokia?s smartphones penetrate into the Chinese market?

On the other side of the fence, Nokia in partnership with AT&T, will ship the new Nokia Lumia 900 starting on April 8th. The Lumia 900, unlike the Windows Phones of Nokia in China, is set to join the carrier?s months-old Long Term Evolution network which supports faster data connectivity.

According to Engadget, an AOL Tech blog, Walmart and AT&T have already started the pre-order program for the Lumia 900. AT&T is reportedly promising its customers of an early shipping date for all pre-orders posted. The report said the phone will knock on the customer?s door on or before the release date ? or a full two days or more before the official launch.

Nokia, apparently, is slowly but surely deploying its own ecosystem globally with the underdog mobile operating system of Microsoft. But the problem is not the hardware ? it is the software.

Nokia is doing its job, from marketing to selling, while Microsoft trails behind its competition, namely Google and Apple. I?m not saying that Microsoft was not doing its job, but the problem here is the popularity of Android and iPhone?s iOS.

The two mobile operating systems offer more applications than Microsoft?s Windows Phone, plus the bad publicity that Windows Phone gets almost every month including last month?s ?No Angry Birds: Space? future, and the ?Smoked by Galaxy Nexus? report (Google these to find out more).

Regarding the new Angry Birds episode, Rovio already retracted, adding that it will deploy Windows Phone?s own version soon, sans release date.

According to an analyst, based on his analysis of the current state of the smartphone market, Samsung (with its Android phones) and Apple with the new iPhone 4S and the widely anticipated iPhone 5, will both enjoy the whole 90 percent of the smartphone market this year ? leaving others outside the clash with the remaining 10 percent.

UBS analyst?Maynard Um predicted that?smartphone sales could hit?1.69 billion units this year with only the remaining 10 percent for other devices, obviously including Nokia.

Can the Finland-based mobile phone maker prove that its decision is the ?right decision.?? For starters, Nokia has decided to join the Windows Phone market with its partnership with Microsoft ? directly avoiding the lucrative world of Android.??
